About Our Company

The Future Is Good bridges the gap between people and the world they want to see.

We strive to empower people and organizations to make positive impact through community, education, and ethical consumerism. We envision a world that values the environment and all of humankind equally.

At The FIG, we believe in transparency, individual action, positive community impact, education, fair labor, and environmental stewardship.

Our Story

We were founded based upon one idea—that we can be better, and that it doesn't have to be hard. We're rooted in the belief that all of us have a responsibility to act in ways that are less harmful to the people and ecosystems around us, because a just society and a healthier environment is better for all of us.

We see a huge disconnect between the purchasing and lifestyle choices that people make and the impacts their having relative to those they want to have. Over time, it's grown apparent to us that people aren't trying to have negative impacts—people just don't have access to the right resources. People want to make better decisions, but it's just too hard to do so.

That's why we're building our platform—so that everyday people can be extraordinary champions of social and environmental impact.

Our Team

We're a group of passionate, experienced, and dedicated individuals, working around the clock to achieve our mission.

I’m a lifelong environmentalist who’s passionate about empowering people to be the change they want to see in the world. Over my career, I’ve been fortunate to hold executive positions at several startups and work at multiple institutions in both the private and public sectors. I’m now beyond excited to be part of the team bringing The FIG to life. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Industrial Engineering and Communications from Cal Poly, SLO, and through my education I learned a lot about how to look at systems, identify variables and manipulate them in an effort make the system work better. I’m applying these skills as the Chief Executive at The FIG to both our organization and our role in the world.

I read Blake Mycoskie’s Start Something That Matters when I was sixteen years old, and I’ve felt called by social entrepreneurship ever since. I started The FIG to make it easy for everyone to live a lifestyle that is better for people and our planet. Our decisions have immense impact. We're here to help you make the best of yours.

If there’s anything stronger than my love for cats (the animals, not the frightening anthropomorphic musical), it’s my love for starting businesses. After starting several companies and graduating from Cal Poly SLO with a B.S. in Business, Entrepreneurship, I took a job with the university mentoring students with the goal of building their own startups. When I was asked to join the FIG team, I was ecstatic to finally put years of entrepreneurial experience towards my passion—building a company that inspired and enabled others to take action on environmental and social change. Through my education I learned how to identify problems, market products, and balance financial statements. Through startup and life experience, however, I learned the biggest lesson of all: People want to make a difference. YOU want to make a difference, that’s why you’re on our website! You want to leave the world better than you found it. You want to learn, grow, and inspire change. With The FIG, we can all finally be the change we want to see in the world—and I’m thrilled to be on board the ship that’s making it happen.

"Be kind. Know more.” In a slab of wet concrete outside of her apartment, Ariel dug these words when she was 23 years old. By 23, Ariel had learned only one unshakeable truth: when in doubt, we ought to lean toward compassion and curiosity. And that is why she fell in love with writing about the things we own and the stories they hold. Things are pieces of people and time, and very often outlive us. So, if you want to leave a piece of yourself behind, do it by buying what you believe in. That became Ariel’s ethic.

When she’s not writing, you can find her walking along the Bluffs in Carpinteria with her dog Zorba (a Jack Russell that has yet to learn to “come”, “sit”, or “stay”.)

I am a Colorado native who loves everything outdoors, especially skiing. When I moved to San Luis Obispo to go to Cal Poly, I quickly took up surfing, even though I am terrible at it, and ran for the hills in Big Sur to go backpacking. If you can’t find me relaxing at the beach, you will probably find me sitting on top of a mountain somewhere in Colorado. I am currently working towards a degree in Aerospace Engineering at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, so I also love anything and everything that has to do with space.

I joined the FIG when Garrett first pitched the idea at Cal Poly Startup weekend and I was inspired to truly make a difference in our world. I have done many different things for The FIG, from running social media to helping with design, but my main task is Product Selection. Every company that you find on our website has been vetted through me, so if you have any suggestions or questions don’t be afraid to shoot me an email at

As an Eagle Scout raised in the middle of California, I was lucky enough to spend most of my childhood in the outdoors hiking and backpacking. Spending days or weeks deep in the backcountry has helped me find the beauty and importance of environmentalism and sustainability. I believe the goal of business should not be to make a profit, but rather to fund a change in the world. When I joined The FIG I was excited to work with a group of like minded people who want to make the world a better place. I am currently attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign working towards a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science. As the development team leader at The FIG, I help build the tools needed to improve upon the consumer habits we are used to, while still upholding the ideals of sustainability, fair labor, and community empowerment.

Hello! I am currently a senior at Cal Poly majoring in Business - Marketing and minoring in Stats. I spent last summer working for a microfinance organization in Mexico, and since then developed a strong passion for Impact, whether it’s helping people or our planet. I love learning how we can best empower each other through knowledge to create a better society and environment. This passion led me to The FIG where I combine my Marketing and Stats knowledge to serve as a Market Researcher. Nothing makes me happier than a color-coded graph :-)

Along with my fellow team-members, I also love the outdoors and spend my free time backpacking, trail-running and surfing (well, more-so getting wrecked by waves). On the weekend if I’m not doing one of those activities, you can find me checking out the newest coffee shop. Fun fact: My hometown does not have a stoplight and many people don’t believe it exists.

Web Development

Hiya! I’m a senior at Cal Poly majoring in Graphic Communication, Design Reproduction Technology. For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the beauty of shapes and color. I also grew up in San Francisco where I learned the power and necessity of living with intention in society and the natural world. That’s a lot of fancy words, but basically means I love creating and designing visual content for people with like-minded values of sustainability, diversity, and equality.

At The FIG, I get to do just that. I work to instill a strong visual brand for a company that empowers positive change at individual, social, and corporate levels. If I’m not staring at my screen obsessing over the curve of the letter “a,” I’m probably getting too tan under the sun or spraining my foot surfing. Fun fact: I have this sweet track record of spraining some part of my foot every spring- looking forward to next year!

Hey there! I’m a web developer with a passion for creating applications that can help out as many people as possible. I’ve lived most of my life in California and Colorado, and I’m currently attending Cal Poly SLO where I’m working towards a degree in Information Systems. Working at The FIG is the perfect opportunity to build those beneficial applications. I believe that our planet is way too beautiful to be given up on and that the smallest of changes can lead to the biggest impacts. I hope that my work at The FIG is able to make voting with your dollar and living sustainably as easy as possible!
